CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF
CONSERVATION
The Fallbrook Land Conservancy (FLC) is a
private, nonprofit, tax exempt organization dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the
rural lifestyle and natural beauty of our area. Formed in 1988, the FLC enjoys wide
support in the community and owns and manages 2,706 acres of open space, including the landmark
Margarita Peak, the popular Los Jilgueros Preserve and 9 other nature preserves. Biologists have
identified more than 150 species of birds, and other animals large and small, from horned
lizards to mountain lions on the protected land. We estimate that 10,000 people visit the
preserves each year.
Many FLC preserves have hiking trails that afford
the public an opportunity for exercise and the enjoyment of nature. Our excellent Land
Management Team builds and maintains trails, and enhances habitat viability on the preserves by
removing invasive plants and replacing them with native plants.
Two large groups of mostly volunteers concentrate
their efforts on separate and important aspects of FLC’s mission. The Save Our Forest
group plants and maintains trees throughout the area and also maintains a native plant nursery.
The Trails Council manages a park and extensive hiking and riding trails on Fallbrook Public
Utility District and San Diego County land along the Santa Margarita River.
Our office is located in the historic Palomares
House, which is also used for community meetings and events. An adjacent park features a
wildlife sculpture garden and an arboretum.
