Estate Planning

By remembering FLC in their wills and trusts, a number of generous people have left a legacy of preserved open space for future generations to enjoy. Howard and Nancy Dinwiddie left an exceptionally generous bequest that enabled the FLC to preserve 14 acres across from the Palomares House as the Dinwiddie Preserve and 50 acres on Rock Mountain in the Santa Margarita River Valley.

Dr. Rodger Engel's donation of a 10-acre parcel on Sumac Road allowed FLC to create the Engel Family Preserve.

Other bequests have been received from the Estate of Inez Sorgenfrei, the Estate of Merritt and Dorothy Dunlap, the Estate of Donna Kaeding, and the Elam Family Trust.  Additional gifts of land from George and Julie Gewehr, Joseph and Marie Mullin, and the Bert Hitt family have also allowed us to expand our inventory of open space.

Gifts of conservation easements have enabled land owners to protect a portion of their land with conservation value without giving up title to the land, or going through a costly lot-split process. Donations of easements on Sycamore Drive by John Stanton, and one on Stage Coach Lane by Bill and Vince Ross have protected 12 acres of riparian habitat
